In April 2007, there was a very serious accident at a worksite near Fort McMurray, Alberta. Two workers were killed and 2 others were seriously injured. They were all Temporary Foreign Workers from China.

Their employer, SSEC Canada Ltd., failed to ensure the safety of the workers. A judge ordered the company to pay a large penalty. Most of this money went towards creating the New Alberta Workers program.

We remember these workers and their families: Liu Hongliang, Ge Genbao, Li Ruiming, and Wang Dequan, as we work to improve workplace health and safety for Temporary Foreign Workers and other New to Alberta Workers.
